Probable Cause
On September 18, 2021, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Brainerd Police Officer Gleason observed a vehicle traveling north on S 8th Street in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota which appeared to be struggling to maintain its lane. Officer Gleason attempted to catch up to the vehicle and, when he was approximately one block behind, observed the vehicle turn east onto Bluff Avenue without signaling. Upon turning onto Bluff Avenue, Officer Gleason observed the vehicle in the middle of the road with its reverse lights on, back up, turn into the opposite lane of travel, and drive into a driveway.
Officer Gleason initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Jeremy Michael Meyer (DOB: 03/17/1982), hereinafter "MEYER." MEYER stated that the vehicle belonged to him and provided an expired insurance card. Officer Gleason observed that the front seat passenger had her hood up, stared straight ahead, not acknowledging the officer's presence. Officer Gleason saw MEYER reach into the door pocket and begin moving an object around. Officer Gleason shined his flashlight onto the door pocket and saw what he immediately recognized as the bulb end of a methamphetamine pipe.
MEYER was told to exit the vehicle and then placed under arrest. Officer Larson asked the passenger to exit the vehicle. The passenger was verbally uncooperative with Officer Larson and refused to provide her name. The passenger agreed to speak with Officer Gleason only and identified herself as Kayleen Deanna Kline (DOB: 07/29/1991), hereinafter "KLINE."
Inside the vehicle, Officer Gleason located a backpack behind the driver's seat containing another methamphetamine pipe. Officer Larson located a loaded hypodermic needle in an Adidas duffle bag in the rear behind the front passenger seat.
Officer Gleason asked KLINE which items belonged to her and KLINE responded that the Adidas duffle bag belonged to her.
MEYER and KLINE were transported to the Jail. The pipe located in the driver's door and the substance in the hypodermic needle both field tested positive for methamphetamine.
DEFENDANT has the following prior convictions under Minn. Stat. Sect. 152:
- Convicted of 2nd degree controlled substance crime in court file 18-CR-15-3249. |
