Probable Cause

On April 28, 2022, law enforcement responded to a residence on Smith Road in First Assessment Township, County of Crow Wing, State of Minnesota for a welfare check. D.L. reported that he received information from “Mike” that D.L.’s ex-wife was “gone.”

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Michael Lowell Munger (DOB 03/03/1969), Defendant herein, in the driveway of the residence. Defendant said something to the effect of, “you’re too late, she’s gone.” Defendant was observed to have blood on his person and clothing. Inside a basement bedroom of the residence, officers located a deceased adult female, later identified as L.A.L. lying in a pool of blood on the ground with a belt around her neck.

Defendant was placed under arrest. Post arrest, Defendant gave a Mirandized statement to law enforcement wherein he explained that he and L.A.L. had been in a relationship for the past year. During the morning hours of April 28, he and L.A.L. were arguing about infidelity. Based on L.A.L.'s statements during that argument, Defendant confessed that he “did what he did,” and used a belt to strangle L.A.L and baseball bat to strike her.
